Jump Lists
New in Windows 7, Jump Lists take you right to the documents, pictures, songs, or websites you turn to each day. To open a Jump List, just right-click a program icon on the Windows 7 taskbar. (You'll also find them on the Start menu.) What you see in a Jump List depends entirely on the program. The Jump List for Internet Explorer 8 shows frequently-viewed websites. Windows Media Player 12 lists commonly-played tunes. Your Jump List missing a favorite? You can "pin" whatever files you like there. Jump Lists don't just show shortcuts to files. Sometimes they also provide quick access to commands for things like composing new e‑mail messages or playing music.

Improved Windows Taskbar
In Windows 7 you can "pin" favorite programs anywhere on the taskbar for easy access. Not crazy about the icon lineup? Now you can rearrange them any way you like by clicking and dragging. Finally, there are new ways to preview windows. Point to a taskbar icon to see a thumbnail preview of open files or programs. Then, move your mouse over a thumbnail to preview the window full-screen. You can even close windows from the thumbnail previews--a big time saver.

Snap
Ever need to cut through a cluttered desktop and quickly focus on a single window? Just click a pane and give your mouse a shake. Every open window except that one instantly disappears. Jiggle again--and your windows are back.

Which version of Windows 7 is Best for You?

15.6-Inch High-Definition Display

This notebook has a 15.6-inch TFT display with a resolution of 1366 x 768 pixels (native 720p for high-definition viewing). Its widescreen 16:9 aspect ratio is designed to present websites without lots of left-right scrolling, as well as with a smoother line of sight. Video is powered by the Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 4500M, which uses shared video memory (up to 1750 MB allocated from the system memory). This graphics card is built with Intel Clear Video technology, which delivers clearer, more detailed images by eliminating many of the jagged edges and video artifacts seen when viewing interlaced content and features powerful color control to ensure videos are not too dark, overly bright, or washed out.

Dual-Core Pentium Power

Ready to move up to a dual-core? This Intel Pentium processor-based PC is a good place to start. The Intel Pentium processor is the fast dual-core that lets you surf the web and run multiple applications simultaneously. So you can browse, IM, download music or transfer photos all at once. And use office applications, too.

With the 2.1 GHz Intel Pentium T4300 dual-core processor, you'll be able to perform multiple tasks such as digital rendering and gaming all while running virus scan or other background tasks seamlessly. And its Intel 64 architecture is also ready for tomorrow's 64-bit applications, and offers enhanced performance through improved virtual memory. It has a 1 MB L2 cache and an 800 MHz front-side bus (FSB). (An L2, or secondary, cache temporarily stores data; and a larger L2 cache can help speed up your system's performance. The FSB carries data between the CPU and RAM, and a faster front-side bus will deliver better overall performance.)

The Acer Multi-Gesture Touchpad

A Multi-Gesture Touchpad allows you to pinch, flick and swirl your fingers across the touchpad for more natural photo and video viewing as well as intuitive navigation of websites. The Multi-Gesture Touchpad enables you to scroll, zoom in and out and flip through web pages, photos, spreadsheets and more.

The TouchPad can also be disabled with a one-touch button, eliminating accidental cursor movement with palms and wrists when using an external mouse.

4 out of 5 stars Acer? hope you are not a typing racer!   February 24, 2010
Brian T. Hassler (Clawson, Michigan)
Overall I'm very happy with this computer because it suits my needs perfectly and came at a very reasonable price. The biggest downfall and other reviews mention this is that the computer keyboard often misses keystrokes and for somebody that types fast this would be very inconvenient and annoying. I use it for writing short blogs, and short stories and though it can get under your skin a bit, it is nothing to shake a fist at especially with spell checker.

Luckily, I was able to get microsoft 7 from my brother so that took care of that aspect. I don't understand why they would install a 60 day trial, just incorporate the cost of microsoft 7 into the price of purchase. I also deleted the 60 day trial anti-virus security and installed a microsoft security which saved me money (i downloaded it for free).

The second biggest reason I use it is to watch videos. I find that the ACER arcade is perfect for this and the sound quality is great. Other reviewers mention that the touch pad is sensitive and so far it has had a minimal impact on anything I do (though when highlighting in microsoft word it can be a bit of a monster to control). Overall for the price of the computer it exceeds my expectations despite a few minor hiccups.

5 out of 5 stars Fast little machine   February 13, 2010
Carl Kolchak (Baltimore, MD)
Normally I don't give products a 5 star rating unless they truly impress me. I have read other peoples reviews on this laptop, the 1 star reviews tell me those folks are either upset at Acer for something or they simply got a lemon and lets face it...every product has it's lemons.
Well thankfully I seem to have a good one thus far. This thing is fast! Windows 7 is so much better then vista, I can't really describe it but I am happy to no longer have vista inflicted upon me.
I am 38 years old by the way...my Mom also has an Acer, her's looks identical to this one but hers is a 2.0 GHz single core and is also very fast. I had a Acer desk top a while back and really liked it so I decided to go for another Acer and am glad I did. This Acer seems to offer the most for the best price...at least for now.
Others have said the keyboard doesn't work well..."well" I am typing on mine right now and I am having no problems what so ever. The keyboard keys have a nice bounce to them, they are quiet for the most part other then a little ticking sound as your fingers are typing on them. They feel good to the touch and are very responsive, seldom missed letters "I am a writer and this is very important to me" I will say the keys are flat and my last keyboard had dips in the keys, this is something I thought I would really miss but thankfully I have adapted quickly to the flat keys.
The audio of the little speakers is pretty good for a laptop.
The Web Cam is Amazing! Sharp bright and crisp high detail video.
All together I would have to say its a decent value for $579 "Today's date Feb 12 2010" {I will update this review and let you folks know if my thoughts change or if I think of something else to add}***************************************
UPDATE; Today is May-8-2010- So far so good, I use my laptop everyday and I am usually on it for at least 10 hours a day...as I said I am a writer. It's still fast, still very pleased with it...only now I wish I had purchased a second for my wife who's 5+ year old Emachines laptop is giving up the ghost, I see the price has gone up a lot on it so I will wait and hope it comes back down to the price I paid for this one.

5 out of 5 stars A great choice!   January 24, 2010
L. Volpe (Columbus, OH)

This is a great computer! My previous laptop was a 2003 Gateway that lasted me through the end of high school, all through college, and the beginning of graduate school. In fact, it still works pretty well, although it has a tendency of shutting off when overheated and/or when the power cord shifts slightly. So, given my relationship with the Gateway, I was reluctant to get a new computer. However, when my computer-savvy partner purchased this laptop as a gift for me this holiday season (he was more frustrated by my prehistoric computer than me), I found that the update was a wonderful change. I'm still getting used to the keyboard and touchpad, but this is likely because I'm used to the old keyboard (very chunky and close-together keys and a recessed touchpad). The screen resolution is clear and wonderful. Windows 7 has so many excellent features (especially in comparison to XP), that I'm still finding new things to do. The sound is excellent as well. I am not a fan of the special features of the touchpad (such as the ability to "pinch" with it), so I turned that feature off (I was accidentally minimizing screens and moving things around without intending to). I have also found that the built-in microphone does not offer the best quality sound. Other than that, I highly recommend this computer -- especially for those who, like me, are hesitant to "upgrade."

5 out of 5 stars Based on user feedback...   January 21, 2010

I wish I could be more useful in this review, but I purchased this product as a gift for my daughter, who is very computer literate. She reports to me that she "loves" this laptop! What's important about this is that she has previously owned at least two other laptops and two desktops, all PCs, and all of which she gives quite a workout. Thus far, she reports liking the Acer better than her previous Dells, Asus, and Gateway products. All but the Gateway gave her good performance and good service. But she likes the performance and features of the Acer Aspire best of all. She also has good things to say about Windows 7. Just for the record, I am a user of both PCs (Dell & HP) and Macs. I am typing this review on my Macbook 13 inch, by far my favorite computer. My next purchase will be an iMac.

1 out of 5 stars definitely not happy with the purchase   January 10, 2010
U. Rahimov
I bought this laptop couple months ago and definetely not satisfied. It's even slower than my previuos laptop which had only intel celeron and 2gb memory. Surfing the youtube is headache as it keeps freezing and buffering for no reason. Even though internet signal is excellent.
I guess that's why it is so cheap.
